Are there any good reliable semi-auto 17 HMR's available? I know Remington made one for awhile but think they were called back. I don't think Ruger make one which is surprising seeing the success they have had with the 10-22 which is also available in 22 mag. Would appreciate your comments.

I much prefer the smaller 17 HM2 and I much prefer the superior accuracy of a bolt action rifle. All things being equal a bolt action will out shoot a semi all day long...

I suspect you can purchase an aftermarket barrel in 17 HMR for a Ruger...

Magnum Research makes a 17hmr semi auto. The Magnum Research guns look very similar to Ruger 10-22's.

I agree that a bolt action rifle would be less problems and more accurate. Marlin, Savage and CZ all make reasonably priced bolt action 17hmr that perform well.

How about a Volquartsen .17HMR?:)
I bought one before Christmas and bought 7 different ammo types and shot 5, 5 shot groups with wind flags from the bench....I found the 17g hornady
v-max averaged .83" at 100 yards. In fact, I was out a couple of days ago and shot a .547 and a .625:p I am very pleased with that in a semi-auto rimfire....of course the price reflects it.

From what I understand, not many major companies make semi auto 17HMR's due to ammunition warnings that come with the 17HMR ammunition.

It goes along the lines that the caliber is not reccomended for use in semi automatic firearms.

Actually Volquartsen recommends to use Hornady .17HMR ammo only. Throughout my testing, none of the ammunition types experienced jamming or any failures at all. The VQ works great.....I am sure that a new Anschutz bolt action will be more accurate, but you wouldn't have a 9 round clip in a semi-auto........:D
