I have got a question for anyone who has an opinion. I am getting the left handed savage for my birthday. I am wondering what kind of optics you folks would recommend. I will mostly be shooting targets up to 200 m as well as rabbits and other small game. and also would you recommend getting a bipod for this unit

Heavy barrel? If so they weight a bit to shoot off hand targets at 200M ... So, definately get the bi-pod. As for optics - some good reviews and recommendations of the Bushnell 17HMR rimfire 3x9. For mine - I bought a scope of ebay to play with - NCSTAR 10-40X50AOE - It's a telescope, but for the money spent - I have no complaints! It's probably the same quality as Tasco..

If you have intentions of buying at S.I.R. in the very near future you better call them first. I’ve tried to contact them and they are closed for a short while for inventory and renovations from what I’ve was told...

I am a vote for the heavy barrel and a BSA sweet17 scope if you got a good laser range finder the scope has a bullet drop compensator for the 17 with 17gr bullets mine works fantastic if the laser won't bounce back off the gopher it will off his dirt mound or a rock near him then dial up the scope and over he goes

I would get a Bushnell Banner 6-18x50 or the Trophy series. IMO Tasco's are not very good but others will dissagree with me. I really like heavy barrels my self for the offhand shots - balances the gun out better - for me anyway but you may find it different.

I have the 93g17 HB with the bushnell Super 17 3.5-10x36AO.
I use it mostly for small game like rabbits and like the fact it goes down to 3.5 power for those shorter range shots. The question is at what range will most of your shooting be, if it is over a 100yds I would go with a 6-18.
