.17 Hornady Barrel length

Just curious, on the CZ line the 'varmint' has a 21" barrel and the 'american' has a 22.5, given the velocity of the .17 would a guy be better going with the longer, thinner barrel.....extra velocity and just a wee bit more 'spin' ??

Buy the varmint.

I own a CZ 452 varmint and my buddy used to own an american with the longer barrel. We chrono'd both and didn't really discern any loss in velocity with the shorter barrel. The biggest difference was heat dissipation from the lighter barrel was very poor and accuracy was dramatically affected when hot. My buddy would have to sit out of the action to let his barrel cool while I never did. Incidentally he sold his American and it now the proud owner of the Varmint model. Hope this helps you.
