I was lucky enough to find a CZ 527 chambered for 17 Hornet to go along side my BRNO Fox in 22 Hornet last month but have not been able to locate any new brass for the 17. Why is there such a shortage of 17 brass in North America? There is definitely lots of interest in good rifles chambered for the little 17 as they don't last long on any of the gun sites I frequent. Forced to use factory rounds for the brass or start necking down and fire forming 22 hornet brass. Has anybody had any luck sourcing 17 Hornet brass in Canada lately?

17 Hornet brass is extremely difficult to find right now, as is the 17 Hornet Hornady ammo.

As a result, demand is up, production is low, the price goes up.....:(

Gun shows. Once fired or 80% boxs at tables..
Its been 3 yeats since i snagged the last 2 boxs of brass on the shelf.
But to be honest , hornady brass varies alot . The bags need to be sorted by wiegh and neck thiclness ive found. No uniform i bit

But the ammo you buy, from the same lot

gave my better more concentric brass then the new bag of 100 ..
If the can swallow the price of new ammo, then relaod them for a while . Might be further ahead.

Nothing is the same since the giant, fake virus scam was forced on us by many nations governments.
The continuing repercussions of scarcity and high inflation will be staying with us for a very long time.

Can it be made with 22H brass, or does that cause neck thickness problems?
i have formed about 300 rounds and its good stuff , no issues... had maybe 30 rounds where the neck was too thin and the bullet had less than 1 thou of tension ...scrapped those

No need to scrap them. Re-size with the neck expander removed from the die and you will have good bullet tension.
I have done that before.

i dont like different lots of brass with different neck tension...too much to keep straight...( i did give them to a buddy)
Have you put up a WTB ad in the EE ? I couldn’t find any 44-40 last winter anywhere and a couple of members here helped me out. I didn’t check availability of ammunition or brass when I bought the rifle but probably wouldn’t have changed my mind. Your other option I believe was already mentioned. Reforming of 22 Hornet into 17 Hornet.
With these cartridges with hard to find ammunition they basically turn into a reload only proposition if you want to shoot any amount.

That's exactly why I now cast bullets and reform my brass for my 69/71 Vetterli.

Brass can be found. 348 Winchester which is getting expensive. Or 8m/m Lebel. My first brass was made from 348 Winchester. I lucked into 80 new cases while my rifle was being shipped. When I bought my Lebels I was slowly finding brass and factory rounds at gunshows. So no shortage of brass. Four of the Vetterli‘s I can shoot by swapping the bolt handles around with my center fire bolt. I have a few other odd balls I have acquired through the years

.348 Brass, is what I'm using too. I cast a few lbs of bullets, and that should do me for a long time. A friends dad passed away and he doesn't have a PAL, so rather than letting it be destroyed/deactivated I have taken possession of it. Brass dies molds and load info is scarce, I did make it a centerfire also. This year between my friend and I 8 rounds went downrange, he's happy to be able to actually use it, I'm happy to save a piece of history.
