.17 Mach 2 rifles

I have owned Marlin, Ruger, and Cooper rifles in 17mach2, and friends own CZ and Savage rifles. The odd used one shows up for sale, but I haven't seen a new one in years. Ammunition is still being produced, but you need to keep a fair amount on hand to get you from one run to another.

Apparently CCI/Hornady is doing two production runs per year. They must have just done one, as it is everywhere here at the shops in YYC. I sold all my 17M2 stuff a few years ago, 717, 917. Wish I had kept one now as ammunition appears to be not going away.

The 717, I never had a problem with mine, but kept that chamber spotless as recommended by others to prevent an out of battery situation. The 917, a VS stainless laminate, was more accurate, but not by much.

I have two of them. A Marlin 917V thanks to Threescrews and a CZ American thanks to Clay at Prophet River. Also have about 10K ammo, 1/2 of which is Eley. Once again thanks to 3 and Clay.

Neither of them is going anywhere soon. I’m thinking gopher season is upon us!

Its all I use for gophers and birds that poop on ma's clothesline. Deadly out to 125 metres on gophers. I bought all the ones WSS still had a few years ago. Bought ammo wherever I found it and burned through 100 rounds just yesterday in a gopher patch.
Rifles are hard to find but ammo is around now!!

I have had half a dozen plus HM2 rifles... three Savage MKII's, two H&R SB1's, a Volquartsen and a TC that went "Kaboom"... I shot them for many years, it is still my favourite squirrel cartridge and the Savage pictured below has the distinction of being the most accurate rifle @ 100 yards that I have ever owned. When the writing on the wall became clear that HM2 was on "shakey legs", I sold off my last rifles... I only shoot .22 LR in rimfire now.
That is one beautiful rifle!!

^ Sako Quad (PO4) is available with a .17 Mach 2 barrel. That was my gateway to this calibre, and I am very tempted to obtain the heavy bull barrel in .17 Mach2. (The rifle came with sporter barrels.)

I was lucky enough to buy a Ruger 10/22 conversion into .17Mach 2. Wow, now I can really burn through the ammo!

Candocad.

such a cool little round.

Never looked for the ammo for it. One of my LGS always seem to have it when I do notice it.

Never really looked into picking one up. The 17HMR is doing fine for me.
