Does Savage and Thompson have the exclusive rights to make 17SWM rifles? I guess it's still a novelty ammo since there's not a whole lot of talk about it since it was launched?

That's the problem with a new ammo. It seems very slow to catch on. And people are reluctant to jump in for fear of it dying a premature death by unpopularity.

I believe I read a review of a Browning 1885 chambered for it as well. I finally got a chance to have a good look at the Savage Bmag with the pencil barrel, and I can't say I was impressed....and I'm usually a big fan of Savage (minus the Axis on aesthetics). The worst part was probably the fore end being flimsy as hell and contacting the barrel on either side depending on how I held the gun....

.17 Hornet ammo anyone? It's a neat cartridge but I'm still not sure I've seen a box of factory ammo anywhere for it.

Agreed, the B-Mag was less than impressive.

the savage bmag came out with a heavier barrel model, and boyd's is making stocks for it, addresses some of the issues

at the shot show ruger announced they are making a model in 17wsm, it is mentioned in a thread here somewhere...I think i'll be waiting until that eventually gets to Canada

Pretty slim pickings out there. I'd consider it if it were a bolt gun. The Savage has that ugly look'n bolt knob. Can't even find someone who carries that ammo either. Meh, off to the back burner for now. Maybe in a couple years I'll revisit it again. Maybe I'll stick to 17HMR or 22WMR for now. Thanks guys.

Winchester Low-wall 1885 is a wicked little rifle. Not too impressed with a 1500.00 price tag though. I will likely still buy one though. I have a b-mag. Bought for the cartridge stayed for the decent accuracy and low price in a kicking little cartridge.

I have both a Winchester and a Savage. I put the Boyd's stock on the Savage, still not impressed. I've got 1000 rounds of ammo I've picked up at Cabelas and Wholesale Sports. The Winchester does shoot really well.
