I have been looking around for a rifle chambered in .17 WSM but can only find it in Savages' BMAG and 1885 Winchesters. Does anyone know if there are/will be others chambering this round soon?
 
im in the same boat as you I wish there was something between the prices of the bmag and 1885, there are a couple semi's for a ridiculous price

just a sign of encouragement savage came out with a stainless steel Heavy barrel which seems to correct the stupid flyer problem

The only other is Volquartsen which is a semi and high end. I have heard rumours that Anschutz and Ruger are looking at making a rifle. It appears ATK who owns Federal, CCI and Savage is looking at ammunition. The original Bmag has had a few issues but hopefully the newer rifle will have these sorted out. Only time will tell!

Absolutely I totally agree. The problem is the whole thing has been rushed. Savage have been sending out some rifles which could not hit a barn door!

The only issue I can see that would cause it's demise, would be if the .17 Hornet is more popular and that has the added advantage of reloading. CZ already have a rifle in that caliber so maybe they think the WSM has no chance.

Availability of ammunition has been an issue so hopefully once the shortage and price gouging have faded it may have a good chance?
 
It would be nice to see another ammo manufacturer in the picture as well. Some guys in the US have reported huge velocity variations when chronographing the Winchester ammo. More so with the early production runs. Someone posted they thought there was a powder change along the way as well.
If I was still reloading I would likely opt for the 17 Hornet but since I don't the 17 WSM is a nice option to have. I hope it catches on and Ruger or CZ jumps in the game. These would likely fit into the mid price range options most people are looking for.
Ideally I would like to see a CZ 527 with a medium weight barrel in this caliber. Apparently the 17 WSM fits in the 17 Hornet mags(mag is just too long).

I'm really interested in this cartridge, but I'm concerned it won't catch on like the .17HMR and will be obsolete within a few years. That said, I've also handled one of the Savages and IMO the rifle feels too cheap. I'd really like something around CZ quality/price range.

I know what you are saying. I am holding back to see if it really takes off. I think the .17HMR will be around, although I kept with the .22WMR. I was chatting with a gunshop owner today and he tells me many are returning to .22WMR. If you look at the shelves still .17HMR to be had, but not much .22WMR.

I haven't seen one in person but have heard from others about the poor build quality. I think Savage have done themselves a great disservice rushing it into production. I also heard that the first Bmag were made in the USA but production is moving to Canada!

I hope CZ bring out a rifle or maybe Browning.

Never know maybe a lakefield bmag maybe be better made amd cheaper for us to buy

I've owned a few Savages over the years and would have to say if this was the first one I ever bought it would be my last. I agree they aren't doing themselves any good putting them out the way they did. I still can't figure out why they wouldn't just keep the 17HMR/22Mag model 93 platform they currently have and beef it up and elongate the ejection port. I know the rotary mag was part of it but I would have been happy with 5 shot straight mags.

It's sad Scott that Savage did not stick with the 93? They must have had a reason for the Bmag and it has not worked out to well for them so far. The only other option is the Winchester 1885 Low Wall single shot which seems very strange choice when you are trying to promote a new cartridge!

I would like to see that as well. Unfortunately I read on Rimfire Central they are dropping that line.A guy in the states named Erik Mayers was talking to the guys at the Remington booth(they own H and R)at the shot show and that was what they told him when he asked about 17 WSM being in the lineup. He was told what ever was out in the stores for sale was the end of what is available. I bought an H and R Sportster in 17HMR from Lebaron's to convert eventually.

Yah, a T-Bolt or 455 in .17 WSM would be awesome. I just don't want to get one and then see the cartridge go the way of the 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum.
 
I agrees, this cartridge would be my choice of the 17's if it could shoot as well or better than the hmr. The potential is there but as others have said, ammo and Properly built rifles are the problem currently.

If hornady would get on board with this and drop the 17hm2 then it would be worth Pursuing:)

Yes either would be really nice. Until Aguila began making Centurion branded 5mm ammunition new old stock Remington was crazy money, and still fetches a pretty penny. I would hate to get a rifle and find out ammo was non existent! I really want to support the new cartridge but just can't justify it at the moment. The 5mm is a good round and I was tempted to try and find an old 591/592. But the WSM is in a league of it's own, lets hope our prayers are answered and we see more rifles and ammunition.

Hornady have said they will continue to support the .17HM2 although they have not given a timescale for how long. Eley have dropped making the cartridge and I think it will disappear! Hornady do not want to manufacture the .17WSM as it competes against their .17 Hornet although they potentially cater for two different types of users those who reload and those who don't.

Another issue in some USA states certain hunting regulations only allow rimfire so they could miss out on potential sales. Franklin Armory is also manufacturing an AR15 in .17 WSM which could boost sales in Commifornia where rimfire AR15 can keep all their features.
