Just wanted to see if anyone has any real experience with caliber on coyotes. I know its not the ideal caliber but just wanted to get some feed back. Thanks

If you can find a gun in this call that shots straight then yoy have a great coyote gun out to 150 yards easy ....dutch

I hear the problem with 17 cals for coyote are twofold. Wind is not their friend, and they make shot placement very important due to their light weight notbeing very good at getting past bone.

So if you are a good shot and it's not windy where you hunt it'll do just fine.

Everything I have seen says the 17 bullet is less affected by wind, their smaller profile and faster speeds mean they stay on line better

That's what I have read as well that they are not as affected by the wind. It looks like it should be good out to 150 yards but just wanted to get some real experience with it. Dutch when you say if you can find one that shoots straight have you had one that you have had issues with?

Thy have a very poor stock that puts pressure on the barrel. There are a few utube videos on how to stiffen them with rods and glass ..Dutch

A coyote can be one tough SOB to kill. I've seen them run concession blocks being chased by hounds after having 1/2 a front leg blown off with a .243 . Not saying you can't do it with the .17wsm but ???? Shot placement is going to be paramount to success . But it can be done keep distances reasonable.

what's the expected barrel life with this caliber, I would think the leade would erode fairly quickly.

What are you comparing the 17 bullet to exactly? A .22 rimfire, or one of the many varieties of centerfire used for varmints?

they will work exceptionally well. excellent for headshots! I used an HMR out to 125+/- no problem and I will use my WSM as soon as my part gets in for my mag holder.

I have taken 8 under 100m with no issues, center of mass using 20gr they spin a bit then fall over. Long range I have 2 kills, 20 gr @ 180m hit him just behind the lungs, he started to run, stopped laid down and chewed at the hole until he died.25gr@230m hit him in the chest, his legs went stiff and he died before he hit the ground.

Ymmv, I prefer a .223 or .243 if it's over 200m, but the 25gr .17 wsm vmax gets the job done for less than I can reload a .223 using premium bullets.

Not sure what you are reading or where your finding it, but may I suggest a new source as your source right now couldn't be further wrong............time of flight is a factor in wind deflection, but I think you need to do some reading on a term called Ballistic Coefficient, how it is determined and how it affects bullet flight..........
