I read that alot of folks are shooting 168 gr bullets out of their M14s so I'm wondering if 170 FMJ's would be alright? I have two boxes that I can reload with and was wondering if anyone else has tried?

It was designed for the 150's, but as long as your careful and don't "magnumize" them they'll work fine.
Too stiff a load and you take a chance of bending the op rod.

The 168gr Sierra was designed to shoot 300m paper targets. It just happens to be much more consistent than a lot of other mid-weight bullets, so the police and snipers gravitated to it. However, it goes subsonic and unstable at about 800-900 yds and goes all wonky. The US military target shooting teams found a 175gr bullet had the longer range accuracy they wanted compared to the standard 147gr issue ball combat ammo.

So am I good to go with reloading these 170 gr FMJ's to use in my springfield? I mean it's gotta take an awful lot to bend a oprod as these rifles were designed to fire TONS of bullets ... or should I stay away from them?
