....

I personally really like the design of the modern rack and pinion lever actions. Have you looked at, tried, or fired the Browning BLR or Henry Long Ranger? They are a wonderful combination of the strengths of both bolt and traditional lever actions. Unless a tubular magazine or something similar is a 'must have' I'd highly recommend checking them out.

I like the older Marlin 30-30's best and prefer the pistol grip style over a straight wrist.
The straight wrist has the classic look but the curved pistol grip is more comfortable to shoot.

For the money the BLR is miles ahead of anything else in and around the $1k mark in terms of quality, craftsmanship and overall function. That said, if you like something else more, we’ll thats worth something too

Yep, older Marlins and Winchesters are great leverguns; they have the feel and the history and the style that many are seeking when they buy a lever.

But the BLR is simply a great gun...that happens to be lever-operated. As accurate as a typical bolt-gun, with modern features like a detachable box magazine for spitzers and a bolt that locks into the barrel itself, but with the speed of operation that only a lever (among manually-operated repeaters) can offer. A takedown BLR in a modern chambering is close to perfection in a pure hunting rifle for the travelling hunter.

I’m looking for a more traditional lever action in 30-30. Just a personal preference

Hard to find anything more classic than an older pre-safety Marlin 336 or pre-64 Model 94.

If I wanted a lever gun it would be either of those two choices bar none other.

This is my vintage 1974 Marlin 336 in 35Rem. I prefer the Marlins over the Winchesters because of the ease of putting a scope on them.

The Winchesters are lighter and if you shoot irons well or simply prefer irons, you might lean that way.

I'll raise you a '76 336 in 35 Rem on a quad.
