I guess that all things considered, the Stag receivers are reasonably price, even with an "NR tax", so why not

Obviously one of the most appealing aspects to the STAG 10 is the NR status but plan on getting a few of em and always wanted a 16" .308 version kinda like the DPMS Recon G2. Nice & compact.
Just exploring ideas.

Yes, I know it needs to be registered as restricted if going this route before the "restricted police" start with all the posts.

Any suggestions on good 16" .308 AR barrels ?

Once registered as a restricted you can never go back so why not just purchase a less expensive Aero AR 10 receiver set and avoid sacrificing a NR set?

How many ACR's went from restricted to NR nowadays? Few hundreds maybe?

Yeah, that's not the case. You can always phone in and have it switched back. A few guys were doing it with the Tavor's as well, I remember TVPressPass writing about going back and forth.

That said, I wouldn't go shorter than 16" and another 2.6" is hardly noticeable. A few years ago I had Bob Jury build me an 18" 308 barrel that's quite handy. Now wishing it was 18.6...
