17hmr or 22lr for training rifle

Deep down I think I was leaning towards the 22lr anyway, even before I posted this thread. I know about the price differences (ouch) between the 2 cals. I already have a Thompson Centre R55 Benchrest and while it is considered to be one of the most accurate semi 22's out there, I know that it's not the same as a bolt gun.

May be late to the party. YOu have all you need. Not many bolts will out shoot that TC r55. been there done that. use it, just watch for the chamber gouging, otherwise its as accurate as 22 as you will find for under $1500, may be under 2K

I vote for the 22lR, but I'm a 22LR/rimfire addict. Of the two dozen plus rimfires I have only three are not 22LR, two 22Mags and one 17HMR. I learned on 22s and I teach with 22s. Twenty-twos are not an intimidating round, recoil or noise wise. They are, or were, available in every action style so you can instruct a new shooter starting with a single shot and moving up to autoloaders.

And to be honest people, they're just plain fun.

This target was first in the Rimfire Central CZ/BRNO challenge for factory barrels at 100 yards.
Then I added a picture of my rifle and it was determined that with a tuner I should be in the modified class shooting against Lilja and Shilen barrels.
Didn't make a tinkers-dam-difference as it was first in that class too.

Just a question on scoring. Perfect score would be -15?
