Any reccomendations for a scope on a 17HMR? Picking up a Savage shortly and I'm not sure what to put on it.
Thanks for the input

I put a pine ridge 6-18x40 on mine, has the turret for bullet drop of a 17HMR, kind of cool.

Only thing I don't like is the side parralax adjustment gets tight once it is set into rings on the rifle. This could be the scope but might be the rings and alignment.

Pretty sure there is a thread about the 17HMR and scopes a few pages back too.

A BSA sweet 17 3-12x40AO works just fine on my friends gun. Its a Model 917V and with using a bi-pod I shoot 1"" 7 shot groups at 100 yards all day. It all depends how much you are willing to spend.

The 3-12x40AO goes for $150 and they also make a 6-18x40AO which goes for $200. I cannot speak to the preformance of the second scope or to how well these scope take being punished in the field.

I'm tossing around various ideas for mine. Part of me would like elevation adjustment, as I do use it on 22LR, but the other thought is that 17hmr is flat shooting enough at zero to 100 yards that I won't need it unless I intend to shoot beyond 100.

I,ve got a bsa sweet 17 for cheap put on mine and was fun for punchen paper but shootin hogs with 20 gr. I put a 6x18x40 nikon buchmaster and make head shot out to 200 yards on a com day.Only lost one and I hit it ,but it ran around like a chichen with its head cut off and made it down the hole.that nikon has been on my last 4 varmet guns and will likely keep moving it to my next one.The more you spend the more you,ll like it

I'm only in my second year as a .17 HMR shooter, but have a brute of a scope to try on my CZ 452, it's a Mueller 8-32x44

Huge~probably, too much scope, I'd say so...but my last .17 HMR had a Bushnell Banner 24x scope and while I liked that much power, I didn't care for the scope itself. This one has side Focus parallax adjustment, plain/fine reticle, more magnification than I need, but like up to 24x for groundhogs at 100+ yards. I also (for better or for worse) feel the temptation to see how far I can accurately shoot my new .17HMR, so we'll see how all of that works out. For practical purposes, I don't think you really "need" more than 12x-16x to realize a .17 HMR's potential, but to each his own. I do know this~I'm not keen on the real econo-varmint bushnells and this Mueller seems to be excellent quality for the price. Admittedly, I'd have chosen a smaller one in 18X if they offered it with the same features/reticle.

!!NICE RIG!! :sniper:

I use a Sweet 17 (6-18), and it works ok. I was interested by the idea of the BDC turret, but it seems like the HMR is flat enough out to ~150 that it's not really necessary. The Sweet 17 has a short eye relief that takes some getting used to. The FOV at full magnification can also make target acquisition tough, but that's obviously true for any higher powered scope. Whatever you go for, make sure it has parallax adjustment down to 10 or 15 yards/meters.

I use the Bushnell Banner 3.5-10 x 36mm [713510]
Came with a 17 hmr turret as well.

I have the same scope on my .17 Savage. I have never really felt underpowered in the magnification department. I can see the bullet holes in the target (just barely) at 100 yards, and I can pick off 500ml pop bottles filled with water at 200 yards with it. I've never tried the BDC turrets, i use the MPBR method instead as I do with all rifles.
