For just shear joy of seeing something furry desintegrate,or for actual hunting ? For hunting I would say niether,I would say the original .22WRF!

45 grains of pure fun!

For gopher hunting the 17HMR. Flatter shooting, way more velocity. 2500 ft per second out of a rimfire-----wild.The antics a hit gopher will do is only better by a centre fire varmint round. Thats another story. The bad side cost. $10 per 50. Quit smoking and no booze, its only money-------Cowboy

I like WMR... It holds its velocity better at longer ranges, and it kills little game dead without ruining too much meat or skin.

Never been fond of lighter faster bullets over heavier ones.

Squirrel stew anyone? Rabbit fur mitts?

actually, if you use the proper bullet with the HMR for your intended purpose you will be ok. v-max bullet = wasted meat. hollowpoint or fmj = no meat wasted.

but then again for small game it doesnt matter because the 17hmr is so accurate you have no excuse not to make headshots on anything under 125 yards;)
