18.5" Norc Barrel Question

I currently have a 2 Norinco M305's with the short 18.5" barrel. My second Norinco is purely a spare parts gun that I never use. A friend has offered to purchase the receiver off me and I'm considering selling it. This would leave me with a spare 18.5" Barrel:) My question:

In the event that I eventually shoot out the barrel on my first M305, would I be able to replace it with the spare barrel from the second? I understand that these norc barrels are chrome lined, and therefore can't be reamed. So would I have potential problem with the headspacing in the future if I tried to install the spare barrel on the first receiver?

Any insight appreciated.

Yup, like bdogg said.
I would also guess that headspace would not change enough to be of issue BUT it would be prudent to check headspace regardless.

OK, thanks for the replies. So the answer is, if I ever do get 10,000 rounds through the barrel of my norc:D, I can swap in the backup barrel and not likely have any major issues. Thanks gentlemen.

I once witnessed barrels being removed on the back of a pickup truck using a wrench made out of some kind of pipe. I asked what was going on but the adults were speaking and I was told to go away :(

I went home crying that night and I had to explain that scary people with guns in a truck were mean to me. They were like 'show us on the doll where they touched you' and all I could remember was one of them had a serbian accent.

LOL, ya really gotta keep yer head down and yer eyes peeled when there's a serbian around LOL I should know, I married one :D
The funny part about wrenchin m14 barrels in the back of a pickup box, in a back alley parking lot, is the RCMP seemed strangley alright with it hehehe

OK, next obvious question is, how big of a job is it to get the barrell off. Is this something any gunsmith could do, or does the M305 take "specialized" tools? What would be a resonable fee to do it?

Should this be attempted at home?

Forest Grove ;)
I did not hear back about Campbell River. Can't remember the names of the guys that were from there from the alberni clinic.
Beginning of August might work for me. We need a pointman from that area to arrange location and possible range time if we do a 2 day thing.
Heck, I might just have to take in some more alberni hospitality and do clinic #3
Hmmmmmmm

Frank was one of them, he was the guy who knew a buttload about firearms and brought his friend, Rednex was his handle. This was the guy who made those steel plates to shoot at and had the sweet truck.

I'm wondering if we could do Sooke in the summer, the legion and cadet hall is a 5 minute walk from my place and I could put up 2 people comfortably. The fishing where I live is only better in Haida Gwai and Uculuet, too bad my boat is only 12 feet otherwise I'd say everyone stay longer and we land some springs.

I'm looking to put an 18.5" on my 22" m305... any ideas where to grab one or would you reccomend having a smith chop the current one down?

Talk to Armtac , he might be able to order you a Criterion standard weight 18.5"
I think they come prechambered but I could be wrong.
Depending where you are, there are a number of shops that can cut crown and thread your barrel BUT you won't get the same thread and splines for the m14 flash hider.
1/2x28 or 5/8x24 are the popular choices. Lots of options for muzzle devices in 1/2x28. A new front sight option will be required as well. This can be problematic but solutions exist.

We were drunk and YOU came onto me. Just to set the record straight. Also, since I'm married to Thomas now, (yay!) I guess he'll give me a heavy 22" barrel for our anniversary.......wait, that doesn't sound right.....

Thomas, if & when you want to do a third Port Alberni clinic, let me know. I'd be glad to arrange things on this end. Maybe sockeye season? :D

We are talking to LRB, we will have the 18.5" coming for sure, just need time to put everything on my website for preordering.
