Smaller barrels make the gun easier to stow for me. I also don't shoot trap/skeet/upland with it so a longer barrel would only make the gun harder to carry for me.

18" bbls are a good compromise: improved accuracy over the 14" shorty, and quicker handling than the longer bbls.

I use the 18" for bear protection and IPSC matches (faster pointing and won;t hang up as much in the bush).
All my bush barrels are 18" and shorter.

They're great. Faster and lighter than a long barrel, fun like heck to shoot, easier to carry, and they're dead ###y
For a serious duck or goose gun you want the longer barrel. But for a 'funnin' shotgun, or predator defense, or an all around survival tool, hard to beat the shortie shotties.
