180 metal rod prevention

I'm trying to find a thread about the Wk180 or mcr or one of the 180s that had a mechanical engineer who was talking about putting furniture pads? at the end due to abrasion or something does anyone remember what he was referring to or which thread it was?

I searched a over pages and different threads and couldn't find it easy

Are you talking about putting pads at the back of he reciever to cushion the bolt? I vaguly remember something like that.
