I'm asking this question on this board because I find generally the shooters on precision rifle board are more knowledgeable.

I have a Rem 700 in 300wsm with a factory 24 inch barrel 1-10 twist and it has been free floated and pillar bedded. I currently have been shooting 165 accubonds and its been pretty accurate ... about 3/4 MOA at 200 yards , plenty good for hunting.

However ... I think id like to run 180 accubonds this year so im looking for a 180 accubond load for my rifle. Does anyone have some input they would like to share ?

Powder / powder charges , primers ?

Thanks

I spent a couple of weeks last month trying to work up a good hunting load for my Savage 16 in 300 wsm.
Finally after switching powders and bullets at least a couple of times, I found the magic formula for my rifle.

I originally used a 165 gr bullet as well, and Win 760, but wasn't getting good results, and after reading somewhere online, that the 180 gr works better with the 300 wsm because of the twist, I switched to a Hornady 180 gr SP and IMR 4350, after playing with the COAL and lowering the charge to 63.2 gr of powder, I got the accuracy I wanted with a MV of about 2930.

I used both CCI mag as well as Winchester mag primers, and settled on the Winchesters.

One thing I noticed is that the Hornady book shows the max charge for this powder and bullet weight to be 66.5 gr.
I wasn't able to get anywhere close due to pressure signs.

The other manuals I checked showed a much lower max charge for the same bullet weight, not sure why the Hornady manual is so optimistic.

If you were getting 2930 with a 180 with 63.2 grain ... imagine where it would be at 66.5 ? probably over 3200 ... id be happy with 2750 out of a 180, start getting past 2850 and your recoil just gets brutal ...

Thanks for the input ... interesting
