Good afternoon, I have an 1856 Enfield made in 1860 and the hammer sits too far in for a masket cap nipple, even a No 11 nipple it would be iffy.
Anyone else see this issue? I think that either the hammer was bent or replaced with another part. The gun had a No 11 nipple on it, so that may work.
I am wondering if it would be safe to make a spacer for in behind the hammer and in the square area outside for the screw to clamp down on. Thinking about doing this in brass but maybe something like Nylon would be better, like a bushing.
I tried another hammer but since these were all hand fitted guns that would not be a direct swap at all, I just need less than 1/8in of movement away from the lock to have a centered hit on the nipple.
Thanks
