Remington Model 1858 Revolver

Hi,3B I have a couple of questions about your Remington Model 1858 revolver
-I presume its an antique not a repro.
-Is it an Old Model or New Model?
-Caliber?Barrel length?
-Serial #-is it 63,04X or 6304?,your posting reads 63,04_
-If its 63,04x,I would suspect it is a New Model Army issued late civil war period 1864-1865
-As you probably know unlike Colt,Remington does not provide serial # ranges for their antique firearms.
-If you would like futher info on your revolver please advise :) Cody

Thanks Cody,
More about this antique! It's a .44 with an 8" barrel,
s.n. 63,04x
a "w" on the loading lever and an "L" on the trigger guard
an "L" on left side of barrel, an "M" on right side.
a "W" on the left side of frame near the hammer
it has a run of 3 characters 3"down the left side of the barrel
that I will have to get magnified.
The finish appears to be blued and the trigger guard is brass.
Jed.

Model 1858 Remington revolver

Hi Jed,sounds like you have an interesting revolver. The initials you have stamped on various parts of your gun would be Remington,Army & subcontractor inspection marks. If you remove the grips you should find the guns serial# & inspection marks repeated on the LH side of the frame.Frankly I & many other Remington collecters believe that the Remington was a superior design than that of its contemporary competitors ie -percussion Colts to name but one.As for value I would have to see pictures of your gun.:) Cody
