Can anyone tell me the specs on ammo for a 1858 Remington New Model 38 RF? I have been searching but what I have found says the slug is 375 D 376 neck but it seems to big for it. I know it was a 36 cal ball before converted to RF. I have tried 38 SP leads in the barrel and it will go through (not shot just the slug no brass) and that's 357 D.
I would not like it to blow them up with wrong info.

Found some specs for the .38 Long rimfire cartridge, which might be of some use. From Cartridges of the World:
Dimensional Data: .38 Long (for pistol)
Bullet dia.: .375"
Neck dia.: .376"
Base dia.: .376"
Case Lgth.: .873"
Cartridge OAL: 1.380"
The cartridge fired a 150 grain bullet @ 750 fps MV.
Note: Data shown is for pistol cartridges.
This info might not be any better than you have now, but may be helpful. I've been trying to locate load data for this cartridge, ie: powder charge. But had no success, so far.
Only way to know for sure what the actual bore dimensions are, is to slug the barrel, if you haven't already done so.
Anyway, good luck. Hope some of this helps.

I think that's the same info I found but when I asked a guy who is into anteque rifles he told me that's what his rifles shoot.
I will contact Remington and maybe someone there will know for sure. I don't want to blow it up.
