1860 Colt Army pre 1872 antique question

Hi guys, just had a question regarding an antique Colt Army. Can you exchange cylinder/wedge/barrel with re-pro parts is it still considered an antique? Is it legal to perform this work? I have a friend that wants to update the 170ish year old parts and make it safe to shoot and I said I would ask for advice. Does pedersoli or uberti parts swap in?

I doupt any modern reproduction parts will fit.
Those old handgun were hand fitted and vary quite a bit from gun to gun.

The frame remain a old gun and it is the frame - cylinder stud - that hold it all together. This is not a safe thing to do.

Parts likely won’t fit. I have two Uberti 1860’s that barrels and cylinders won’t fit each other. If parts could be found they would need to be fitted. Better to leave the gun as is if it’s functioning.

some small parts might fit, maybe, but other parts such as the cylinder are not interchangeable because the cylinder pin is of a different diameter
