Evening! I recently was able to find myself an old snider rifle. MK2 long (3 band). It's all complete and everything works as it should but I was hoping to maybe talk a bit about the different stamps and marks. There seems to be multiple regimental markings all over the rifle ( crown over the numbers 5, 10, 11, and 14 respectively in assorted places on barrel, breech, chamber etc. There is also some other marks I cannot find online to identify.. There is a crown over the letters "XP" as well as a crown with the arrow pointing down on the lock plate beside which is the number 4. On the top of the breech there is a very odd symbol. A sort of half circle with a capital A in the center; however there is a third line that splits the A in half and drags to the right at the bottom connecting to the right leg. It also appears there is an S or maybe 2 circles on top of each other over these 3 lines within the main circle. There is the number 20 on the ladder/battle sight as well as the breech and each of the 3 barrel bands. Please advise me on how I can upload photos as it says I may not post attachments. I have no idea what to make of the circle symbol with the "A" and added line with circles within. Thanks everyone!

Thank you! I have found the crown over the X is the inspection mark for Bowe, London and the numbers are relative to the inspectors however I can find nothing on the royal crown sitting above XP..? There are no regiment markings on the stock or butt plate beside London armouries 1 and DC diamond stamps.. I believe the serial number to be "20" as this number is on every piece including the barrel bands. (The ladder has the number "12" over top of the number "20" with another "2" on the right of the 20 and sideways. I believe the two 3 armed markings alongside another on the breech plug bottom are British broad arrows? I have found no other relation to the encircled "A" that is split with circles inside it.. Very much appreciated!

The Crown/X/P is simply the proof mark found on LSA converted Sniders (different from later new manufactured examples). The BSA equivalent is "TP" (Tower Proof). The "encircled A....." is the corporate logo. The important serial numbers on most Sniders are found under the wood on shoe and breech plug and barrel and above the wood on the breech block, rear sight leaf, etc. I have a few LSA's and they don't have these serial numbers.
