I have a chance to buy an 1872 Enfield Snider but I have no idea what to offer. Can anyone give me an idea based on those 4 pics? Thanks in advance

Broad arrow is the symbol of War Department property.

The large circular stamp is the 'trademark' of the Enfield Arsenal where the gun was made.

The elongated 'asterisk' is the two opposing War Department/Government Property broad arrows, showing that the piece was sold out of service to a civilian organisation of some kind.

DC in a lozenge is the 'Dominion of Canada' stamp, indicating crown ownership and service in Canada.

34 may be the unit number [?]

Are there any other numbers on the butt plate?

Perhaps Mr Rombaugh can put me right here.

I don`t have the gun yet, just pics. Not sure if I`m gonna bother with it. Here are the only other pics I have.

Crown E 63 is the inspection mark of inspector number 63 at Enfield. This is a new made breechloader not a conversion of a muzzleloader and was made in 1871.

For the right price I would be happy with that piece. I would agree on the $450 evaluation as it looks kinda rough. I like rough though.
