1873 Springfield Rifle

Could any of you knowledgeable Trapdoor folk give me a estimated value of what this might be worth ? Seems in pretty good shape except for the pictured damage at the rear of the stock . The bayonet is in really good shape . Serial # is 215356 . Thanks .

An issue carbine or a cut down rifle? Makes a huge difference.

I'm not entirely sure . I'll post pictures later . What should I look for ? I'm not familiar with these firearms at all , hence all the questions . Appreciate any help at all .

Look for signs that the barrel has been shortened and a cleaning rod hole in the forend filled in. Different rear sight.

Decent 73 Springfield rifles can sell at auction for $1200. Carbines can go higher. Real long shot, but check carbine serial numbers for Custer era.

Here is a few more pics . Forearm doesn't seem to be filled in . Sights are different . Shorter rifle has sight with a " c " stamped on the side . Long rifle is stamped " r " .

The carbine appears to be a proper carbine and not a cut down rifle. Prices range on these up here, but realistically I suspect it would be in the $1500 and up range. More pictures of the stock cartouche and markings would be needed to confirm a few things.

Looks like a very nice grouping. I'm sure many of us would be interested if you're selling.
