I just got a 1875 Egyptian Remington revolver in good shape.
The problem is 44 colt brass doesn’t fit.
I’ve had 2 other 75s and the colt brass fit fine.
Anyone else have this problem?
Ideas?

Not familiar with Egyptian contract 1875's but could be a .44 Remington center fire? It's just slightly smaller than a .44 Colt. & I do mean slightly!

I’d be finding a case that fits and resizing to what fits your gun. What caliber that’s stamped on the gun can also be confusing as a 44 in one country can mean a different 44 in another country or people can get confused when they sell something.
I went to buy a 44 WCF and to me that is 44-40. It was 44 Rem mag.

Give me a bit to dig out my stuff and take some measurements for you. The Egyptian Contract 75 had its own unique ammo ( long story and info available w a giggle search ) . The parent brass to reload is the 44 Colt but a major pain to reload . I’ll dig my stuff out and get back to you .
Cheers

The 44-40 bottoms out just past the lead . So that’s a good thing doesn’t fit in yours or a “ no go “ cal . The 44 Colt binds from the get go just a few thous. Oversize . If they fit in other 75’s u have I would suggest someone has opened the chambers in the cyl. The reloads , done by a wonderful fellow passed away , I gather he ordered special dies etc made up in a custom machine shop in the USA . If I recall , they reduced “ resized “ the 44 Colt brass down . He would then trim them back and then would have to reduce the dia . Just below the rim as u can see a “ groove “ below the rim on his reloads . Powder loads , exact measurements I can’t help with as I said he is no longer with us . I do have all the reducing and sizing dies , this n that that I recovered after he passed . He used my 75 to test and fit .
Cheers

Caliber marking are Greek to some people. Friend of mine bought a Marbles Gamegetter from and old guy. Which is basically over/under handgun with detachable butt stock. Chambered 44 and 22. Mostly for 44 shot cartridges no longer made. Old guy gave him a part box of Remington 240 grain 44 magnum with it. Said he'd fired 8 or 10 and " was "awful loud and fire flew out of er". Lucky he's not playing a harp now.

I was thinking at one time about buying a 1875 in 44 like yours.
I researched it alot online. What I learned discouraged me from buying one.
My impression is some will shoot 44colt brass. Some will chamber 44 Russian brass. But some will only chamber 44 Remington brass.
Then there is the size of the bore that varies.
Custom molds and dies very expensive. Plus everything I try to get from States gets held up at our border and takes months to get delivered.
I also noticed that whenever I talked to a seller of a Remington they always claimed they never tried to shoot it and had no idea about chamber dimensions or bore size.

I'm wondering if maybe thinking about rechambering it to 44 Russian or 45 cowboy special?
Would help to know the bore size.
