Bought a Cimarron 1885 38-55, and found it has a small storage space in the butt, behind a neat sliding cover
What would have typically been stored on the rifle? Might fill it just for the sake of being correct
I'm assuming BP kit, maybe patches or a rod? sights?

A different rifle for sure but I have a 1916 enfield with a brass buttpad that also has a storage space under a hinged round flap (brass as well) and inside it was a homemade cleaning kit….basically a boresnake of string and cotton cloth at the end.I figured a replacement for the issued one if that indeed was what it had, speculation of course but anyway that’s another idea for you! Hopefully someone else knows something about your rifle history. Enjoy the mini adventure!

Tools to address issues for those early shooter?
Wood or brass maybe ?
I just happen to have an econo 3 pc brass rod in my range kit, will have to see if it fits
I can see a pull-through might be a benefit when using black powder

My rifle has the appallingly unfriendly crescent butt-plate with the trapdoor in it. Seeing as I've fitted the appropriate Tourbon 'pain-reliever', using the supplied rod is impractical, so I keep it made up to use in general clean-up.

Appalling? I haven't shot while wearing a tshirt but with any kind of light jacket 250s @ 1500 is friendly

I'm interested in wht the original looks like, so I can try to copy
handle, fittings etc
