Hi all.
A fair to good 1892 Winchester saddle ring carbine (20" bbl) in 44-40. Made in 1902 and has the nice crescent butt & elevator sights. Missing one tang screw,saddle ring, and front swivel eye. Other than that it is tight & in nice shape. Distant great great uncle was original owner.
Looking for a link to a site for exact disassembly procedure for the '92 if someone has one. I have a copy for the 1886 if it is as similar as literature states.
Though not for sale opinions on value always appreciated, even for insurance purposes.

It is missing some very important parts, one being the original ring. Most saddle carbines did not have the crescent stock that yours has, most were shotgun style.But yours could be a special order gun as the 1/2 mag, swivels (if factory), rifle stock . the missind tang screw if it is the small diameter top screw could mean that it had a tang sight which was taken off as it is worth almost as much as the gun if it is a factory original. You could check with Cody museum with the serial number if it is under 354,000. They only have records up til that number.

As for value as it stands at present....I would estimate $450-$550. The caliber is important also as odd calibers other than 30-30 are more sought after. hope this helps a bit.

The date of manufacture, as mentioned, is 1902. Shall put together the missing bits as they can be found and looking forward to a little range time after a thorough disassembly and cleaning. Fortunately the bore is very good with excellent rifling & just a hint of pitting in the grooves near the muzzle. Not going to "restore" & loose the patina of age (or the smell) however.

Obtained manual & saddle ring on way. Bore cleaned up real nice with sharp rifling & only a hint of pitting near muzzle. Rifle also has a patina of odor about it that would be nice to preserve... that of 100+ year old accumulation of hunting camp odors (cigarettes/alcohol/woodstove smoke, etc.) that you just can't recreate. Hopefully the case it came in will help retain what I may clean away. Read about a fellow several years back who sent an Aston Martin back to the factory for a full resto on the condition that they not remove the smell of cigar smoke from the interior. I guess I understand that a bit more now.
