Many of the Spanish carbines were converted to 7.62CETMEx51.

The spanish carbine I have, likes 175 grain bullets and has a quick twist rate. The bore is in good shape so it's quite accurate. When I bought it from Lever Arms, 1970, I was lucky enough to be able to choose it from several dozen.

They are fun to shoot and great to carry but like all carbines that shoot full size cartridges, they can be a real bear to shoot.

from what I've been able to gather-the first ones were made in Germany, not sure if later models made in spain had the same quality control. You don't see a lot of them around

That being so-would you look for an earlier model, made in Germany? Are they marked appropriately?Got to admit-they are a very nice looking milsurp

I picked up a 1895 Spanish Carbine at the Kamloops gunshow that was in very good condition for $275. It was originally chambered for 7x57mm but it was converted for 7.62mm at the factory back in the 50's when Spain joined Nato. While I heard that the early models were made in Germany, mine was made in 1901 at the Oviendo arms factory in Spain.
