I've had two 1895's , one original and one browning repro . Great rifles , but difficult to scope . I've handled exactly one that had an old weaver 2.5 power scope mounted with a side mount . Like any opinion , it's subjective , but I found it to be extremely ungainly . It made the rifle very top heavy and it just felt awkward . It worked , but not my thing . I did have a Lyman 21 receiver sight on my Winchester 1895 , great combo and made a difference in regards to accuracy . They're not easy to find now and expensive when you do , but IMHO , worth every dollar . I have seen a few 95's with small red dot sights using a rear sight dove tail rail installation . A pretty trim set up . I've never used one so , unfortunately , can't comment on their usefulness . From the look of them , I think that they'd preserve the feel of the rifle pretty well and would be more useful under low light conditions .
