I'm trying to decide what, if anything, to mount on my new 1895G. If anyone has any pics with scopes or red dots mounted, could you post them so I can see what they look like.
Thanks

I don't have a picture but I mentioned in another thread, I put a Leupold 1x4 VARI-XII on mine. For mounts, I used a set of Weaver pivot mounts to enable me to access the iron sights, if & when needed.

Don't care for scopes on my 45/70s, best option in my opinion is Williams receiver sight # 5-336 peep sight, it screws into the holes meant for scope mounting and allows you to take out the fine aperture and use as a ghost ring if necessary, this matched with a fibre optic front sight is the ticket.

Amen, a scope doesnt belong on a short barreled 45/70. I could see a scout mount with say a 2x scope but they are so gosh darn ugly (IMO). Id get a good quality peep as ben mentioned above and never look back.

I believe that scoping a lever should get you hit by lightning...or should make your #### fall off. Or both.

It's just wrong.

One mans opinion, or one opinionated man:dancingbanana: (?) ? Each to their own, but where I find the scope to be a real advantage is in load testing. In addition there are some pretty definate antler stipulations in some areas that have to be met to make an animal 'legal'. Again, the scope helps.
Sorry to hear about your #### condition. :runaway: On the plus side, look at the money you saved in the ### change operation when you came out of the closet.

....shoot the thing for a while with the open sights and get a feel for it. Put whatever you want on it that makes your comfortable. Remember eye relief is nice on these heavy hammers they can bite ya.:D

Oh, now that really hurt. :p

That was the biggest deer I saw and I was desparate. I might be comming to Alta in 08 for a deer hunt. I'll be looking for something a little bigger. Will a .270 be enough or should I bring a 375?
:)
