The mainspring in the 97's cause most of the "clunkiness". They are a lot sturdier than needed. Some of them are made worse by the crud that has accumulated and packed in the slot that contains the spring. Sometimes removing the spring from the elevator and a good cleaning will improve things a bit. While the elevator is out of the gun I usually remove the spring tension setting screw and leave it out, then test the gun with a few rounds to see if it will still bust primers. If it does then leave it out...if it is still to stiff for your liking, then you have to remove metal from the spring. The idea here is to alleviate hammer stroke (and reduce friction pressure between bolt & hammer) pressure during racking. NEVER DO THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE A SPARE SPRING, take too much off and you will need it.
Other than that, as Guntech says rack'er like you own'er.
