I was given a Winchester 1894 in 3855 with a 26" hexagon barrel it has a combination globe front site on it. My question is did this rifle come stock with this sight or is it a aftermarket thing. My other question is how rare would that make this rifle. My grandfather got the gun in the early 50s and never shot it. Story he told me is the guy who owned it before couldn't afford rent and gave it to him for payment.

It very well could have been as gun manufacturers were very "special" order compliant in that era but the only way to get concrete info on that sort of thing is to get a letter of its manufacture history from Cody Firearms museum. If the records for Winchester are still available for that years, they will know. Because of building fires and company ownership changes, some years records are missing.

You can get the date of manufacture at this web site if you have the serial number http://oldguns.net/sn_php/windateslookup.php?file=win1894.dat

I have the 26" round barrel version , it was manufactured in 1897. The standard front sight was a blade sight with a brass bead however there was a clip on globe available - is yours the clip on or is it mounted in a dovetail?

While there have been 100's of thousands of the Model 94 manufactured I have been told there were only about 12000 total chambered in 38-55. Condition is everything with these when it comes to value.
