I purchased a Colt Pocket Hammer and can't get it apart to give it the cleaning it really needs. I cannot depress the button under the muzzle to compress the recoil spring to release the wedge and remove the slide. It only has to move an eighth of an inch but it is solid in there. I mean NO movement what so ever. Cant see rust anywhere. The wedge moves free. I put some penetrating oil on it but no movement. Dont really want to whack it. Perhaps freeze the gun then pull it out and heat the slide up front and give it a tap? I thought about tapping the pin holding that assembly out but there is no way to hold the slide open. Thoughts? Thanks Guys !

Its a 1903 "Hammer" model in 38 Colt. Different from the hammerless. It has a wedge held in place by the recoil spring. You depress a button under the muzzle to release the spring pressure on the wedge and slide the wedge out right to left. The dam button is seized and cant get it to move.

Have you disassembled the pistol previously ? Is it possible that the barrel wedge was installed backwards ? A shot in the dark , I know , but I had one years back and the button should depress easily . Sorry brother , not much help .

I dont think its in backwards but i suppose thats possible. The wedge moves easy. This is the first time taking it apart or trying to and I think it's been a long time since anyone tried. There is zero movement in the button so I'm going to try hot and cold together. Thanks for taking the time. Cheers.
