1903 Springfield.....date of manufacture...

I have one manufactured by "Rock Island Arsenals" with a serial number of 3673XX. Can anyone tell me when this rifle was originally made?

have you looked behind the front sight for a barrel date? unless replaced in WW2 the barrel date should be close to reciever date ...sometimes there was a time lapse from when the receiver was made and when the barrel was installed .

The year of manufacture for serial number 3673XX is 1920 or after.

Production of barrels and assembly of rifles continued to the end of 1922.
All rifles recalled and rechambered for .30 caliber in 1906.
The improved heat treatment started at 285507.
Introduction of nickel steel started at 319921.

Thanks guys. The barrel date is 9/42 so it's a replacement for WW2. Hurts the value a bit but then the barrel is as new. I just wanted to know when the original date was. Dave
