1903 springfield

Hi all, I've got the chance to buy a sporterized 03 springfield from an estate. It's had the stock change for a sporter stock and it drilled for a scope mount. My only reservation is the safety, as it's still the original and not scope friendly. It's got see through scope mounts on it now, which I would replace with proper mounts. So the question is what's the ball park on replacing that safety? Anyone know a gunsmith in eastern ontario who could do it? Newly made guns don't appeal much to me, I love the character of old ones. Thanks.

Brownells sells 2 different safeties for the 03, either a low vertical swing or a horizontal swing conversion that is a 2 position safety. Neither requires a gunsmith. Hope this helps.

A lot of "requires no gunsmithing" parts on old guns do in fact require a knowledgable person to fit the part, a hundred years of wear tends to change dimensions a bit. - dan

The old standard was the Buehler design. I have three Springfields - all sporter conversions all with Buehler safeties.
