Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I'm selling a Winchester 94 Extra Lightweight Rifle for a friend - the serial number dates it to 1904. The rifle has no finish left, and a dark bore, but deep rifling, and may clean up well. The front sight has been replaced with a new one cut out of an old coin, and the rear sight may have been filed down from a buckhorn. Any idea what it's worth?

its in poor shape and not original any more so If it shoots well thats the type of person that would buy it. I would say not much more than a couple hundred dollars. IMHO

cheers,
Justin

Geeze, that's just sad.
So badly rusted they had to steel wool it off so you could see the numbers.
I'm betting the insides are just as bad.
I bought one like it at auction for a parts gun a while back, paid a hundred bucks.
But Winchester values have been rising lately, so who knows.

I don't think it's a true extra light rifle either. The barrel contour appears to be a standard contour that a 26" octagon barrel would have but it has been shortened it appears unless it started as a short rifle which is another model that differs from the extra light model. The extra light barrel contour tapers rapidly.

Looks like it may be an original gun but the sights are easily changed out. If it has a 26 inch barrel from action to muzzle, it is a true rifle. The spacing of the front sight seems ok but should be about an inch to centre from muzzle. Has a 1/2 mag that is rare in a rifle. but the finish looks like it was stored in a leather saddle scabbard for too long. A couple hundred seems about right. if the bore is like the exterior then it will probably end up a wallhanger.

I thought it was an extra lightweight rifle from the description in my Standard Catalogue of Firearms, but that book isn't always right. It's not my rifle, so whatever price it goes at is approved by the owner, I'm just selling it for him.
