1907 Ross?

Had some dude call me outa the blue looking for a 1907 ross action

Now....I go by Marks....Mk II....MkII*...MkII**...MkII***....MkIII....ect

is there even such a thing as a 1907...?

Civy variants?

1907 is a sporting variant.

The 1907 is the action the 280 Ross was first made on, it like a Model 5 action with the threaded bolt lugs. The scottish deer stalking rifles and 280 match rifles wer made on this action

As has been said by others, it's like a 1905 action with 1910 bolt head.

When the action is open, are the lugs vertical or horizontal?

vertical the same as the 5, that I think is why Ross made the M10 action to get away from the long distance from the mag to the chamber. The 1907 is also a standard thread for the barrel unlike a 5 with the 2 corse threads

Not many rifle have the lugs vertical when unlocked. Have heard that this resulted in feeding problems.
The Mosin Nagant is one of the few other rifles with this lug orientation. I wonder if this is why the MN design has the cartridge valve.

cartridge valve??....is that what its called?

I have always understood the 'cartridge valve' was to hold the 'about to be chambered' round away from the ammo below to prevent the rims from getting tangled up

I have tries loading rounds with rims behind each other and it doesnt seem to work so good...

That cartridge control device does deal with the problem of rim behind rim stoppages.
