1907 style sling

About a month ago I picked up a 1907 style sling. Nothing overly special about it other than the manufacturer stamp.

It has the "JEW" inspector stamp dated from early WWI

The metal on the sling is all brass.

Here is the issue for me. I have been searching the internet for this manufacturer "M.W.H. Co.

There is no date on the sling but JEW was a military inspector for the procurement of slings and other leather products.

It's possible this may be a sub contractor. I don't know. I have other 1907 style slings but they have common manufacturer/inspector stamps.


Anyone have any information on this manufacturer?????

Actually there weren't. There were about a dozen or less that made up the vast majority of those slings in the US. I have no idea about off shore contractors that also used the slings.

The "JEW" inspectors mark is a US marking.

Usually the slings are also dated. This one isn't.

I had an email from one fellow that suggested Marshal Wells Hardware Company. I doubt that because Marshall Wells is a Canadian retail distributor to the public, not a manufacturer of anything.

I will agree it might be a sub contractor. It would be nice to know who and where it came from and the approximate time frame it was made. It may even be pre WWI.

JEW is an INSPECTOR'S initials, not a manufacturer's initials. The Manufacturer is M.W.H. Co.
