My 1908 brazilian mauser I bought a while back is in need of a new barrel. The current barrel is heavily pitted, muzzle is washed out and cannot hit a 8 inch target at 25 yards. I would like too replace the old barrel and bring the rifle back too shooter status.

My question is, what other Mausers could I source a potential barrel from? Or can I only get a barrel from another 1908 brazilian? The original barrel is 7x57 and I would prefer too keep it that way.

I'm sure if you were patient and put up a WTB ad and did some searching you might be able to find a barrel from a 1908 that was removed to make a sporter out of the highly desirable action but even if you get the barrel cheap it's going to end up costing a fair bit to have it replaced. Maybe a better solution would be to just sell the one you have now and buy a complete rifle with a better bore? Unfortunately there isn't a whole lot of collector value or interest in the 1908's and they sell for pretty cheap. I recently sold a pretty decent one for around 350 bucks. You could probably get a couple hundred for yours the way it sits. Just something to think about.
