1908 Mauser Value

I have had this rifle for over 40 years. I have never shot it. There is still some cosmoline in the action. It came with a matching bayonet and scabbord.

About 40 years ago I bought a pair of new Mausers, in the grease. This one has never been fired. There is still grease in the action. It came with the matching bayonet and scabbard. Both carry the same serial number as the rifle.

This is the 1908 7mm Mauser made by DWM. The crest of Brazil is clear on the receiver.

The bore is spotless. I cleaned some lumpy cosmoline out of it today.

The workmanship in this rifle would put most factory sporters made today to shame.

I want to sell it, but have no idea of a fair price. I might be able to find the factory test target for the rifle. I had it framed and hanging in my shop. Can't see it now, but it is probably here, somewhere.

Marstar had one going for $1500.00, but thats quit stiff, and I don't know for how much they finally sold.

It always depends how badly someone wants to own it.

They are one of the most beautiful mauser rifles you can find.

For this gun (a M1908), $1200+ I'd say, but too few change hands to say that's the "going rate". With the Test Target to round it out, it would go higher.

Some people speak about "the economy", but while it might be tough on them, there are lots of collectors who can and will pay for exceptional pieces, and this appears to be one.

Put it out there at $1500 for a few weeks and see.

$1500 seems like a lot. But it cost me a week's wages when I bought it and $1,500 is somewhat less than a weeks wages now, so I guess it has not really appreciated very much.

I will look for the target. i found the one for the 1935 Mauser.

Damn Jim, I never thought I'd see the day when you'd sell those.

I've seen these rifles in person. In the grease, unfired, matching bayonets/scabbards and test targets. It don't get any better than that. $1500 would be a starting price in my mind too.

Why sell? Good question.

I have several hundred rifles, Some I have never shot. Some have never been shot.

There are some rifles I shoot a lot and some I want to shoot a lot.

My famly is reminding me that I can't take them with me and they don't want them. They don't know what they are. They don't know how to sell them and don't know what to ask. So I am selling off a few.

I would like to see them go to some NUT who will give them a good home.
