I'm getting back into 1911. Can somebody recommend an inexpensive place to purchase some quality 1911 mags for competition (10 round 9mm).

Thanking you in advance for your kind recommendations...

Thank you. Wilson Combat was my choice number one but they are scarce in Can and quite expensive. As to Tripp Cobra, I've seen a video about them once.

How will the border services look at the mags being imported from the US?

Seems this gets asked once a month...

I have both Wilson ETM and Tripp Cobra; Tripp are cheaper, better finished and will allow the full magazine to be easily inserted, even with the slide closed (while the ETM require considerable force).

Order them directly from http://www.trippresearch.com/store/store_1911.html, they ship to Canada.

Tripp, tripp and nothing but tripp. get the metal base pads as well, they look awesome. My 10rd 9mm ones have never missed a beat, super easy to take apart and clean as well.

just place your order on their site, I had no issues with my 6 going through the border

Ive owned both Wilsons and Tripps for my 1911s.I sold all the Wilsons and only use Tripps now, they are better mags than the Wilsons IMO.Better finished, better springs, better followers and absolute reliability.Ive ordered them directly from Tripp, great to deal with and once when I phoned up with a question ended up having a great chat with Mr Tripp himself!

Does the Tripp use a slightly longer mag tube than the Wilson?

yea thats not the actual cost. its $14 (flat rate box) per $100 order, for some reason the $500 limit doesnt apply to them. I did the math when I bought them, still cheaper than buying them from anyone in canada

I contacted Tripp for Cobra mags and asked for his opinion on the issue.

He told me one very important thing that I need to share with everyone here:
1. Cobra mags are designed and manufactures for higher mag catch (mag release) because they see more and more people using those.
2. So, a high mag catch (mag release), such as from EGW will treat the issue.

I ordered EGW from Brownells. Had to fill out their silly form to release the order. Though there is an exception on exports of gun parts up to $500 now, they are still required to keep the form on file.
