1911 .22 LR Conversion Kits

I've had a few different Colt .22 conversion units for the 1911/1911A1 over the years [the one with the floating chamber]. Great, as long as you keep it clean. [The floating chamber can get quite gummed up, especially with waxy .22 ammo]. The Colt units are getting harder to find. The upside to them is you can use the GSG 1911 .22lr 10 shot magazines in them if you pick one up & it doesn't come with a mag or only one. Real deal Colt .22 unit magazines are harder to find than the units themselves & are usually really expensive.

I recently scored a vintage Ceiner 'Platinum Cup' 1911 .22 conversion unit, mated to a Springfield Armoury 1911A1 NM frame. Also found this unit works flawlessly with the GSG 1911 .22lr magazines. This unit does not have a floating chamber like the Colt. The one I have works flawlessly & is super accurate.

That said above, I also have 2 of the full GSG 1911 .22lr pistols. My first one has a few thousand rounds thru it. I replaced the pot metal barrel bushing with a steel Colt one. Other than that, once I got the sites shooting to point of aim, it's worked out great, too.

If I was starting out without a 1911 .22lr conversion unit, I'd just get a GSG 1911 .22 lr pistol.

I have a Kimber kit on a S&W frame . It would not go on my STI Trojan it was a bit tight. When I found the right ammo (it had to be cheap stuff) It works just fine. I shoot it as well as my 41 Smith. It is a joy to shoot with no special effort to keep it running.
I do not know if all the dedicated .22 1911 "s have alloy frames , but the ones I have looked at were alloy . I prefer the steel of a conversion .45 frame. Cost wise it will be more for sure, especially if you go for something with a decent trigger.

I got a bunch of surplus colt 22 factory magazines years ago at US Navy Bremerton work with my colt 22 conversion kit
Also got a real old 22 colt magazine with them that looks like
it was built in ww1 or ww2

They look like this?

From left, #1 is vintage, the other 3 are new or as new. Still have the packaging for those.

Purchased my factory Colt spares years ago in the States, too. In the days way before 9/11 and ITAR.

However, as stated above I found out that the GSG 1911 .22 lr 10-shot mags work flawlessly in my Colt .22 unit.

Spare GSG 1911 .22lr mags are comparatively plentiful & cheap! :)

I have a Tactical Solution 2211 kit....all I can say - it is awesome. ....the only downside - the price on magazines. ...

Have you tried the GSG 1911 .22lr magazines in it? I found they worked in both my Colt & Ceiner 1911 .22 conversion units with no hassles at all.

Anybody out there know where to obtain a similar 22 conversion kit for the Browning Hi Power or P35? I would take any maker and even pay a dirty price for one available on this side of the border.

I'm sure you google'd .22 lr conversion units for the Browning Hi-Power?

In doing so, I see Ceiner makes one. And there is a video you can pull of of a Pachmayr mfg .22lr conversion unit for the BHP, too.

I've never seen a .22lr conversion unit for a BHP up here in Canada, though.

Yes, I googled away, neither company will ship to communist held Canada so the hope was to find one on this side of the border and pay to play.Further googling shows that the kit is not all that reliable on the Browning so my second great hope was to find one that was well broken in and that was known to function correctly. Don't stop thinking about tomorrow.

A question for you guys out there that own the GSG 1911 .22

How would younger shooters, and those with smaller hands, be able to handle this pistol?

Pretty soon, my wife will be taking some girlfriends to all get their RPALS :))) and also I'll be starting to teach my kids to shoot before too long.

I had considered buying 3 GSG's now (before the ban, lol) to ensure my family will be able to shoot for years to come. (I have enough .22 ammo for it, anyways lol)
