So I'm looking at 2 options for my first 1911 purchase and want to know what the better value is between the Sig Sauer amd the GSG. I have a friend that has a Sig and loves his, cost being very close between the two with the GSG slightly higher. I'm looking at pistols in the entry level

Thoughts and options please

that's the reason for the post, trying to determine which is the better of the two, I guess it becomes a Chevy versus GMC type of scenario

More like Geo Tracker vs Suzuki Sidekick, but OK :) Just go for the one with the best price.

Edit: Just to qualify my opinions here, I owned 2 GSG's, a 922 and a 1911 and loved both of them. They're great for getting started in pistol shooting.

Just my 2 cents but the look of the sig is far cleaner , was my 2nd pistol and i admit i believed also hey here is a sig i can afford
with the accuracy upgrade package and some hogue inserts its a dream to shoot .
I believe there is no compare in the look but to each their own

I just received a sig sauer catalogue from MD Charlton but was surprised to see no mention of the 1911-22 in it. That left me disappointed

GSG makes the SIG 22. That being said I really like the look of the SIG. GAG offers many more color options over the SIG so you may find something in the GSG line you like better. I think I'm gonna buy myself the SIG 1911-22 when I get my restricted. I would change the grips and likely the sights though.

The so-called "Sig Sauer 1911-22" has nothing to do with the Sig Sauer company so I'm not surprised that is not in their catalogue. The Sig Sauer 1911-22 has always been manufactured by German Sport Guns (GSG) and as such is identical in shape and function to the GSG 1911, except those misleading markings for which GSG paid some royalty to Sig Sauer.

Sig and GSG are owned by the same parent company since 2013 I believe, they also own Blaser Rifles and a couple of other brands, if I'm not mistaken Mauser also.

Absolutely not. GSG is a separate company in Ense, Germany.
SIG Sauer GmbH in Eckenforde, Germany, is a firearms producer. There is also SIG Sauer Inc. which is a separate entity. GSG (German Sport Guns) has nothing to do with SIG Sauer GmbH. SIG Sauer GmbH is a subsidiary of Lüke & Ortmeier Gruppe (L&O Holding), which also owns Swiss Arms AG.
You are mixing up UMAREX and GSG. UMAREX Sportwaffen and Carl Walther Sportwaffen are sister companies in Arnsberg and Ulm, respectively, Germany. Both belong to the PW Group.
Blaser merged in 1997 with SIGARMS which is a separate company in the US that sells SIG Sauer products. Mauser is now a subsidiary of Lüke & Ortmeier Gruppe (L&O Holding) which is the same holding as for SIG Sauer GmbH.

I think if you look it up L&O Holdings are the majority shareholders of GSG, so as I stated same parent company?? Not that I care really, same gun either way

I bought this one a year ago. Only brought it out 5-6 times and the finish would get scratched up really easily. It functions great, I've only put CCI tactical throught it and it was 100% reliable. I sold it to a good friend who loved the look. If I was to buy one again I would probably spend a little extra and get the Sig just to have a more durable finish.

Indeed, GSG is a part of the L&O Holding. I was not aware that the L&O Holding purchased shares of GSG in 1911-12. Nevertheless, the GSG 1911/Sig 1911-22 is exactly the same handgun produced by GSG.

All companies held by the L&O Group:

J. P. Sauer & Sohn, Isny im Allgäu

Of course it is, I've already stated that, I must be missing the point you are trying to make, lol, whether it says Sig or GSG, I think we can both agree they are a fine gun :)
