So, I'm planning to use my STI Spartan in PPC and hopefully IDPA, and I'm looking for recommendations, especially concerning mag capacity: should I go with 9 rounds or with 10 rounds?

I have read arguments for both sides, so I'm a bit confused. I already have two 9 rounders, but I can't mix them, right?

Will I run into box-dimension-issues with the 10 rounders?

Thanks

For IDPA there are two schools of thought. Both are predicated on the basis that, by rule you must use the same capacity mags throughout the IDPA match. Using 9 round mags gives you 9+1 to start the stage. If the match consists of two shots to each target then you will be going to slidelock reloads every 5 targets, assuming no make-up shots. Using 10 rd mags you start with 11 rounds which may leave you with one round in the gun after engaging five targets so going to the 6th target you will have to do a reload and return to the 6th target.

I have used my Trojan 9MM in ESP with 9 and 10 rd mags and found it really didn't make much difference. On some stages you gain a bit of an advantage while on others you lose.

My Trojan with Wilson 10rd mags and STI magwell fits in the IDPA box.

I should add great choice for IDPA ESP division.

Won't matter for PPC - you are only allowed to load a firearm with more
than 6 rounds.

I don't believe there is a rule which does not permit you to mix magazine size
capacity as long as you don't exceed the more than 6 round loading limit,
See Rule 10.9 of NRA or WA1500 PPC Rule book

(e.g. one in the pipe of a pistol topped off with a fresh 6 round mag is a
procedural error).

The only PPC match which you can load to max capacity (10+ if you are LEO using
work issue magazines) is the CPCA duty pistol match. It is moot in your case since
the 1911's are not on the list of firearms which can be used for CPCA PPC Duty Pistol match.

does the sti spartan 9mm fit in the IDPA box? Will it fit if the mags have bumpers on them?
im just starting shooting and want to get into idpa. my first hand gun is a 9mm spartan. I have 2 9 round an 1 10 round mag as of now but will like go with 9 rounders since they're cheaper to pick up.

Thanks
