I'm shopping for a new 9mm and i'm wondering which companies build theirs with ramped barrels.
I understand that the Springfield RO has a ramped barrel. Are there any others?
Please share your thoughts and ideas...if available in Canada.
I'd like th keep the cost under $1000.

STI makes most of them with ramped barrel; however, in MY experience, they really don't add much. My non-ramped 1911 9mm has been more reliable than my ramped one, so...

Yes, I understand. I know the conventional barrels are also good. I own a Norinco NP 29 and it works great. That's not the Issue.
I want to upgrade and a ramped barrel is a feature thats important to me.

If I had a grand too blow...I'd go sti for sure.....in fact next purchase will be an 'STI' ....not looking yet, recovering from my last purchase (hk45) but I'm saving ...lol

The frame has to be cut to accept the ramped barrel ... as previously stated - they were used in IPSC .38 Supers shooting MAJOR 115 bullets going 1500 fps...to avoid blowing out the case just above the web...

I know about cutting the frame. Thats why i want to buy a new pistol.
I checked into it. It could cost $400 to get one installed.
I dont think my Norinco is worth spending that kind of money.

All I can say is good luck finding a 1911 9mm w/ramped barrel, commercially they are not feasible for the manufacturer to make them. Only way is if you find a used custom one that was used to shoot 9mm major in IPSC, or have it made yourself.

Springfield RO is about the only one that is currently available, but doubt it is under $1000. IRG has one for $899usd

only reason I ever used a ramped barrel was in my IPSC 38super, because it was running 115grn bullets at 1500 fps, back in the crazy days

My new 10mm is being fitted with a ramped barrel also to use max loads, why shoot it like a 40s&w

The Springfield RO is the only one i'm aware of For $867 on IRG.
I never shoot hopped up loads. I just like the ramped barrel for reliability.Maybe i should stick with what i have. My NP29 does run very well.

I totally agree with you on the 10mm. Every time i read about it, gun writers think thery're shooting the awesome 10mm and they say recoil's not bad.
That's because they're actually shooting 40. lol The 10mm is a dream gun for me. maybe one day.....
