So a little background.....I recently got asked if I wanted to shoot in Classic Division at this years Nationals for IPSC. Now Production is my main division and the only one I've shot before, but it got me thinking.....If I had a classic gun I could have still gone to nationals. So after a couple days of going down the rabbit hole I've learned that there are sooooooo many 1911's to choose from. So if some experienced 1911 owner's could please give me some advice on a decent purchase that isn't going to break the bank especially considering it's not a class I'll be shooting often, that would be great! I'll add a poll for the common ones that I've noticed based of some quick research. Keep in mind I'm not looking to spend Wilson Combat money haha.

Can someone explain to me how to add a poll? I searched and one fella said that it's in "thread tools" but I am not seeing it.

I am also looking for a reasonable 9mm 1911. Irritating that the Tisas "Canuck" line is made in Turkey. I have heard that Colt after 2015 is rubbish build quality. Also the Remington R1 Enhanced I have heard bad things about. Dan Wesson too expensive. Anyone familiar with Springfield Armory RO model?

I'll be watching this thread for sure.

Yes some of what you mentioned is what I have been looking at as well but mixed reviews across the board. Springfield Range Officer, Remington R1 Enhanced, Colt competition, Ruger SR1911 have all been ones I have been researching. They seem to be the easiest on the wallet. The Springfield TRP would be about the most I would want to spend.

Try to find a used Trojan. Have you ever shot classic division? Maybe you'll like it better than production. If so you might want to look into a higher quality 1911. I've been shooting classic for about 5 years now. I'm using a atlas 1911. One of the best you can buy.

Appreciate the time you took to post those links, however I really don't want to spend more than $1500 at the moment. In regards to your message Smcx I want to stick with 45 acp. Carsmovies I haven't shot classic at all yet but you could be right....Maybe I will like it more and if that's the case I will look at something higher end. Right now I'm looking in the budget range 1911's which I heard there are some decent choices just not sure which would be the better choice between like the Ruger, Remington, Springfield,Colt or STI.

How does Altas compare to SVI in your opinion?

check EE ....

Probably not what you're looking for, but I've used a Norinco in 45 for the IPSC shoots I've done. Works pretty good for me, but I've done a fair bit of work to it. But it was a learning experience and I would be a bit hesitant to cut up a more expensive gun for fear of wrecking it. If I can get my 9mm Norinco 1911 working ok I'll try using it in minor this summer.

Nothing wrong with colt quality post 2015, I would recommend a colt competition and arms east has probably the best price I've seen on them, all you need is a Dawson precision Ipsc legal magwell from freedom ventures and you are good to go right around $1500.

I've also owned three svi's. I think atlas is comparable in respect to quality, fit and reliability. Sv can be more intricate in designs. Atlas is more reasonably priced and much shorter wait times. Both make their own frames, slides and safeties. Sv makes every single part in house. Atlas uses kkm barrels and egw fire control parts so very good parts.
