I have a new Springer RO which has given poor accuracy since day one. I noticed and measured locking lug forward and rearward play at .020"/.5mm. Can anyone tell me if this would adversely affect accuracy? I'm grasping at straws here.

I presume you mean fore and aft movement of the barrel in the slide? If so, that is definitely sloppy, way out of spec. I fit to less than one thou, sides of the hood are usually set to five thou, max of seven. A RO model should be 'tight'! Test is ####, lock safeties, pull trigger then shake. Should be dead silent, any sound indicates too loose a fit, service guns are however definitely noisy.

Correct. Fore and aft movement of the barrel in the slide.
I can see it with the naked eye when I gently pull the slide rearward. The slide free travels before contacting the barrel lug. I've been hesitant to sent it in for warranty cause I have to pay for shipping and testing and it's only covered IF they find something wrong. I'd like to find the problem first if possible. I don't want it sent back NPF _ No Problem Found.

Real way to check - dismount slide and barrel unit, grasp the barrel lugs , push the barrel up into the slide to engage the lugs then try to slide the barrel forward and back . With the slide pushed forward there should be minimum space - hold it up to a light to see how much. Match guns are usually fitted into contact and polish up a bit during break-in. If you really see twenty thou off the frame, I'd say have a smith verify the defect and then ##### like hell, it is after all supposed to be "match grade".

That is exactly how i measures the "end play". With the slide and barrel off the frame. Then, moving the barrel fore and aft, i measured barrel protrusion at the end of the slide.
So far, my tightest groups at 15 yards are 4". Not exactly match grade accuracy. I'm very unhappy with this pistol. Gun smiths are few and far between so i'm not sure where i could go other than making a special trip into Winnipeg. I go there seldom so it's out of the way for me.

That's what I figured. Can't add metal to a lug...I'm gonna send it in for repair. Thanks for the help.

I sent the pistol in for inspection and repair. I can keep you updated when I hear back from them if you like.
