Hi all, not sure if someone has answered this elsewhere but i've got my pistol in pieces and I can't remove the thumb safety. I've read and followed directions seen here and elsewhere but the thing will not budge. Please help!

Move the safety about halfway up and pull out. You may have to give the pin a tap from the right side with a punch.

My colt is the same way ... Pull off the main spring first grab safety with fingers and wiggle wiggle wiggle ... Eeek try not to use tools if you dont have to I would add brass punch so the punch side gets the mushroom not the pin :)

Ok, so i've now tried "wiglling" for about 2 hours. lol. No Luck. Even using a puch doesn't seem to work. I've taken the main spring out and I saw a video that suggested removing the 3 prong sear spring so i did that as well. This thing will just not budge. Is there anything else, short of sending this thing to a gunsmith?

Screwdriver idea had to be modified... I stuck a flat screwdriver in between the safety and the frame and twisted and it slowly came out. It needed the pressure as close to the actual pin as possible. Still can't explain why a puch didn't do the job but at this point i'm just glad it came apart. Thanks for the help guys. I'm totally new to 1911's and the first thing i had to do was dismantle it. Now to rebuild. ;)
