i just bought a 1911 norinco compact and id like to put a compensator on it. iam new to the sport so i dont know much about pistols. can i put a compensator on a compact? what will fit? and whats the best for the money?

thanks for ur help.

Actually yes you can, I had a Norc Commander with a 2 port comp on it and it recoiled less then my Tuned 1911 Gov with a single port comp, Also I allowed females shoot it and they never once though it kicked, till I removed the comp'ed barrel and put the factory one in.

You gotta make sure you get a barrel threaded comp and not the barrel bushing ones, Gunnar would be your best bet, He should have a used barreled comp already to go for decent price.

It's a pretty old school idea, Ed Brown and others had single port comp carry gun builds dating back to the late 80's early 90's

Whatever you do, spend the money on a real comp and not one of the bushing "comps." Personally, I think a commander-length 1911 with a comp looks pretty ###y. Check out this old Briley Carry Comp.

I've built several comped or ported shorties that ended up at Commander over all length. The trick is to use a CONED barrel, with a reverse recoil spring plug [ one that locks in from the rear ]. Otherwise, the bushing and the locking lugs limit spring travel, and you need to get complicated with the recoil springs [ double stacked/triple stacked/seecamp ]

If you just want to hang a 3/4" comp off the end of a Commander length barrel, to make it same as Govt Over all length, you can do pretty much anything you want. I still would recommend the coned barrel and the reverse recoil spring plug designs.

For several good ideas, take a peek at the Brownell's catalog on line. Look for something that says " carry comp". Or contact Gunnar @ Armco.
